How long have you played?
I have been playing for a year and a half.
Why is pickle ball so popular?
It is a very social game. I've met a lot of great new friends. There are several skill levels for all age groups. There are endless opportunities to play pick up games/ rec games/ tournaments. There are so many ways to scratch the competitive itch that people from all sports seek.
What ages are playing?
I've seen players from 10 to 80 years old. And don't be fooled by someone's older age. The court is not too hard to cover, so looks can be deceiving. Older players can be very good.
Where do people play in Amarillo?
Outdoors: Amarillo National Tennis Center, Memorial Park, Tascosa Country Club
Indoors: Netplex
What is a "no no" during a game?
There are a couple: Don't ever hit the ball in the air while you are in the "No Volley Zone AKA: Kitchen". Don't ever serve the ball above your waist.
What equipment is needed to play?
1) Good court shoes 2) Paddle (There are over 30 brands out there) 3) Good branded pickleball (Indoor gymnasium floor pickleballs are different than a tennis court surface) I recommend Onyx Fast 40 or Franklin X.
How long does a game typically last?
A game is comprised of 2 out of 3 sets. Each set is the first one to 11 by 2. That is a conventional format. There are other formats that exist in tournament level play. You can only score a point while serving. I've been in matches that last 10 minutes and then other matches I've seen go 45 minutes.
