Trail Running and Training for a 25K at Palo Duro Trail Run
Red canyon walls striped with yellow, orange and purple rising high above. The bluest skies. Wildflowers bursting with color. Deer munching leaves, wild turkey calling, birds of all kinds chirping. A stream to cool your feet off. Quiet. Peace.
Trail running is an escape from the everyday, mundane. Away from traffic, noise, stoplights and concrete. Running trails you see beauty all around, it's a time to literally stop and smell the flowers. The trail running community is so welcoming and encouraging. I have met my closest friends through trail running.
Have you thought about training for a trail run but not sure where to start? We have you covered! Get Fit will be hosting a 25K training class for the Palo Duro Trail Run October 18th starting the week of July 28th. This group training will be 12 weeks with weekly meet-ups in the canyon on the trails you will run for the race.
Running is running but running trails is different from road running in a variety of ways. From uneven terrain, sand and rocks, winding switchbacks and steep descents, trails are much different from asphalt.
Gain confidence on the trails and be ready for race day with knowledgeable coaches who will prepare you well. We will give you a training plan, a private group and maps on Strava, pacing and hill climbing strategies, all the info you need on nutrition and hydration, gear you might need/want, teach you how to manage heat and more. You are a perfect candidate for this class if you have the desire, have run a half marathon in the last 6 months, and are able to commit to a 12 week training plan. Of course we all have summer vacations planned, but if you can hit 75% of the training you will still be ready.
Classes will start the week of July 27th and we will meet for our long runs in Palo Duro Canyon Saturday mornings at 6am.
